Stand Firm Against Evil

Author: Frank Walton

Radical Islam that advocates killing innocent people is evil.

September 11, 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the evil attack by radical Muslim terrorists on our country. Four airplanes were hijacked by suicide pilots to be used as missiles, laden with innocent American lives. With the attack on the Washington D.C.’s Pentagon and New York’s Twin Towers, nearly 3,000 Americans cruelly perished in a wicked, carefully planned attack. One plane, which crashed in Shanksville, PA, was thwarted when the passengers discovered by cells phone what was happening, as their plane headed to Washington, D.C. to destroy either the Capital building or the White House. Some bravely rushed the cockpit and downed the plane, killing all aboard, before it could reach the terrorists’ intended target. Evil was successfully resisted.

Some have a hard time calling such radical Muslims terrorists. Al Qaeda is a religious movement to radically restore the original intent of Mohammed’s teaching of jihad against those who do not accept the Koran or Mohammed as Allah’s prophet. Moderate Muslims say that jihad in the Koran is merely “warfare” against evil within one’s self.

No, Mohammed was very clear about the “holy war” Muslims should wage against “infidels” (Christians and Jews): “Slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush…Fight those who do not believe in Allah…O Prophet! Make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites. Be harsh with them. Their ultimate abode is hell” (Surah 9:5, 29, 73).

The Greater War Waging Around Us

Let us also remember the greater spiritual war going on daily between Satan and God. Satan has attacked and will continue to attack our souls. “The dragon [Satan] was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus” (Rev 12:17). Satan has declared war on each member of the Lord’s church. He is daily on the prowl, looking for prey, as a “roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Pet 5:8).

What shall we do? How shall we stand?

We must be on the alert to stand firm in Jesus Christ for final victory. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm” (Eph 6:10-13).

In Ephesians 6:13-19, Paul describes this armor as: the underlying belt of divine truth, the breastplate of righteous character; we stand firm with the sandals of the gospel’s peace; we hold up the shield of faith to quench Satan’s fiery, destructive temptations; we fight with confidence wearing the helmet of the assurance of salvation; we wield the Spirit’s weapon of the revealed Word of God to combat Satan’s error; we put this all on with diligent prayer for victory. In the war of the worlds, a Christian is not dressed without their armor and ready to fight the good fight of faith.

“Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light” (Rom 13:12). Through Christ, we will always win over the forces of Satan!
